UAE: Alucopanel Middle East opens $27.2m ACP plant
Alucopanel Middle East’s $100m Dubai TechnoPark factory has the capacity to produce up to four million sqm of aluminium composite panels per year
Alucopanel Middle East has opened a $27.2m (AED100m) A2 aluminium composite panel (ACP) factory in Dubai TechnoPark.
The facility, which has the capacity to produce up to four million sqm of ACPs per year, is the first of its kind in the Middle East.
The project was developed as part of a collaboration between Danube Group and Alucopanel USA.
Commenting on the establishment of the facility, Rizwan Sajan, founder and chairman of Danube Group, said: “Today’s opening is a strong testimonial that Danube is leading transformation in the building materials industry.
“We have been able to successfully set up this facility with the support of the UAE government, and [we are] extremely happy to be the first and only company to make available the non-combustible ACP.
“Being an active participant in the real estate industry in the UAE, the introduction of the new law by the UAE Civil Defence, to use A2 materials, is a new light to ensure customer safety and eliminate loss of life due to fire,” Sajan added.
The Alucopanel facility has been developed in a bid to cater to changing market requirements, following the release of a new fire code from UAE Civil Defence. Under the updated rules, cladding for mid- and high-rise buildings must consist of Euroclass A2 materials.
The Dubai TechnoPark factory occupies an area of more than 4,600m2. It will be used to manufacturer ACPs and related products with 15 metallic finishes and 15 solid or plane finishes in more than 10,000 colours.
Zohaib Rahman, division head of Alucopanel Middle East, said: “Being the first organisation in the Middle East to operate a fully-fledged, non-combustible ACP [factory] is a huge achievement for us, and I am proud to be part of the team.
“Panels produced by Alucopanel do not allow the diffusion of flames, and restrict smoke, which encourages the spread of fire in an upward [direction]. The application of the non-combustible [products] from Alucopanel in development projects in and around the region will definitely elevate fire safety [in the Middle East], representing a new era in building materials.”
Alucopanel Middle East also revealed plans to open an additional facility in the UAE. Details are due to be announced in early 2018.
