The $184.5m (AED678m) interchange project being implemented by Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) is 61% complete, it has been announced.

Upgrade works for the road network and interchange project will see the new terminal of Abu Dhabi International Airport connected to the Abu Dhabi-Shahama highway (E10), providing direct access to and from the terminal as well as Dubai and Al Ain.

As part of the project, E10 will be expanded from four lanes to five in both directions across 8km, and the Presidential Flight road from two to three lanes in both directions.

The project's scope covers the construction of an interchange to the airport through four bridges serving as entry and exit points for the terminal; an underpass leading to Yas Island; and an overpass connecting Yas Island and Airport City A.

Additional activities include the construction of a secondary 3.7km three-lane road network between Interchange No 6 and the E12 road that will connect the Yas Island underpass to E10.

The road between E10 and the Presidential Flight building will be widened, and a bridge will be built to serve the Presidential Flight and Masdar City.

A stormwater pumping station and drainage network will also be constructed to serve the E12/E10 interchange, and a road lighting network and intersections with traffic lights will be installed.

Phase 1 of the project, which included the opening of Interchange A2, was completed recently, WAM reported.
