CBFM has been awarded a three-year TFM initial contract for Masdar City.

Cofely Besix Facilty Management (CBFM) has been awarded a contract to provide total facilities management (FM) services at Abu Dhabi's Masdar City (pictured).

The initial contract, spanning three years, covers hard, soft, and civil FM services, including the operation and maintenance (O&M) of electrical, heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC), potable water, fire detection, life-safety critical, elevator, building management (BMS), and low-voltage systems, as well as civil infrastructure work.

Masdar City features 198 offices, the Middle East's first clean-tech cluster, and the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology.

The development's buildings are cooled through a district cooling plant located on site, which supports the structure's natural cooling designs.

Remarking on the contract win, Ian Harfield, CEO of CBFM, said: "Energy management plays a key role in the scope of work [at Masdar], and we will be introducing several innovative forms of technology and ideas to continually improve our efficiency and service delivery.

"It is very important for us to be part of the evolution of the Masdar project, especially now as it starts to mature as a concept.

"For CBFM, [being] aligned with a customer that is dedicated to the making the principals of energy efficiency in a living city environment really applies a test to our O&M teams to ensure that we all work towards a common goal, and the results merely reinforce the sustainable vision set by Masdar.”
