The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) has announced plans to expand its campus with a 1.85ha (200,000 sqf) building.

A groundbreaking ceremony attended by senior university executives and TECOM Group was recently held in the city.

Located in Dubai Knowledge Park, the upcoming development will feature a modern architectural design.

The expansion represents "a substantial investment by UOWD", WAM reported.

Remarking on the project, Prof Mohamed Salem, president of UOWD, said: "We are excited about the upcoming construction of the university’s new state-of-the-art campus and are pleased to partner with TECOM Group to make it a reality.

"We endeavour to provide our students with the best facilities possible to enhance their student experience and to increase our international footprint within the UAE."
