Schmidt Middle East logistics, a Schmidt Heilbronn company and a specialist in dry bulk logistics, has opened a logistics HQ for the Gulf region at a cost of $5.44m in the Khalifa Port Free Trade Zone (Khalifa Port FTZ) within the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD).

The dedicated hub, which occupies a 22,000m2 leased plot, will act as the company’s Middle Eastern headquarters store, and will handle and distribute bulk for chemical and petrochemical industry clients within the UAE and across the Gulf region.

Dr Hoppmann, CEO of Schmidt Middle East, said: “Our hub in KIZAD is a key part of our expansion plans for the GCC. We have also recently launched a facility in Bahrain, in addition to serving our existing customers for their onsite projects in Kuwait, Saudi, Qatar, and Oman.”

The facility comprises a warehouse providing about 2,000m2 of storage area, a battery of nine silos, a tilting platform, a packaging line, a repair shop and a service station for its prime movers. In addition, the hub will provide customs clearance services.

Mana Mohammed Saeed Al Mulla, CEO of KIZAD, commented: “We are delighted to contribute to the Emirate’s business portfolio by welcoming Schmidt Middle East Logistics to KIZAD’s Khalifa Port FTZ, now home to its regional headquarters.

“Schmidt is one of the world’s leading dry bulk logistics solution providers and its facility will benefit from a strategic location that offers great regional and international transportation links.”

To date, more than 130 companies have established operations in KIZAD.

Schmidt was established in Heilbronn, Germany in 1948.
