Dubai waste disposal sites go smart
The Waste Management Department of Dubai Municipality has transformed all Municipal waste disposal sites in Dubai into smart and sustainable sites
Dubai Municipality’s Waste Management Department has installed electronic gates and smart weigh bridges in all the Municipal waste disposal sites in Dubai, in a bid to make them smart and sustainable.
In the announcement from Dubai Municipality, Eng Abdul Majeed Sifai, director of Waste Management Department, was quoted as saying: “It is an innovative and intelligent solution in the field of management of disposal sites, through which the Municipality realises several objectives, including [getting] access to accurate information about the quantity of waste that enters the disposal sites, and thus obtain statistical data that are used in calculating various performance indicators,”
Explaining that the weigh bridges are automatically linked with the computer database, Sifai pointed out that the registration process of weighing and preparing reports should become easier and faster.
The weigh bridges can also be used in putting together an inventory and classification of the sources of waste generation, he said, adding: “This enables us to control the excess loads of vehicles, which may cause big problems and obstacles within the landfill sites while on the move and during the dumping of the loads. These weigh bridges will be linked to the Smart Gate System (Nafidh) at the sites, and then the fees for waste disposal will be collected mechanically in a smart electronic way. The carriers will be provided electronic details about the use of their vehicles to these sites and the amount of waste that have been moved and disposed of.”
The Waste Management Department has implemented a number of other projects that fall within the same framework, including the smart tracking of vehicles that collect and transport waste, said the announcement.
