The official completion date of the $2.9m Abu Dhabi Midfield Terminal has been delayed by two years, according to reports.

Local newspapers reported on the delay, citing a senior official, though no reason was given.

Construction Week reached out to Abu Dhabi Airports who confirmed the new completion date.

"The Midfield Terminal is scheduled to open in 2019," said a spokesperson from the airport authority.

No further details were given.

The terminal had been due to open in September 2017, but sources close to the project told Reuters last year that complexities relating to the design and execution of the roof were the cause of the delay.

The project has been pushed back twice so far and was initially scheduled for a July 2017 opening, but was postponed due to “construction issues”, local newspapers reported last year.

A consortium of Turkey’s TAV Insaat, Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company and Dubai’s Arabtec are building the terminal.
