CW Oman Awards 2017: Top green initiative revealed
CWO reveals the winner of the Sustainability Initiative of the Year trophy, which was presented during the grand finale of the Construction Week Oman Awards 2017
Oman Shapoorji (OSCO) collected the trophy for Sustainability Initiative of the Year at the Construction Week Oman Awards 2017 for its work on Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Sohar.
In deciding the winner of this award, Construction Week’s panel of industry judges were asked to identify nominations for which sustainability meant more than simply certification.
The judges described Sohar’s Sultan Qaboos Mosque as a valuable community amenity replete with a diverse selection of sustainably minded features.
In the words of one panellist: “The project realised the importance of social, economic, and environmental (SEE) sustainability.”
Another judge said that OSCO’s initiative featured critical sustainability characteristics that stood out from those of its competitors.
Also shortlisted for the 2017 Sustainability Initiative of the Year Award were Carillion Alawi’s Launch and Implementation of Sustainable Strategy, and Aecom’s sustainable activities on Al Ansab Sewage Treatment Plant.
An independent panel of seven judges selected winners in 12 categories at the Construction Week Oman Awards 2017.
The event was supported by Gold Sponsor, Aecom; Category Sponsors Al Turki Enterprises (ATE), Design Group Engineering Consultants (DGEC), Khobar Integrated Construction, Sarooj Construction Company, Shapoorji Pallonji, and S&T Interiors and Contracting; Exhibition Partner, The Big Show Oman; Supporting Sponsor, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB); and Legal Partner, Pinsent Masons.
Winners were announced during a gala dinner at the Grand Hyatt Muscat on Monday, 13 March.
