Carillion Alawi’s Mission Smile scheme was crowned Health and Safety Initiative of the Year at the Construction Week Oman Awards 2017.

This award was one of two secured by the Oman-based contractor on the night.

Mission Smile targeted zero injuries by encouraging robust reporting practices and establishing visible health and safety leadership at all levels of Carillion Alawi’s organisational structure.

In the words of one member of Construction Week’s judging panel: “This initiative demonstrates not only the nominee’s commitment to health and safety, but also its impressive results.”

Larsen & Toubro’s Safe Excavation Below 400KV Overhead Power Transmission Line was named this year’s highly commended health and safety initiative.

Also shortlisted for the Health and Safety Initiative of the Year Award for Oman were Carillion Alawi’s One Road to Safety; Parsons’ Environment, Safety, Health, and Risk Management Programme (ESHARP); S&T Interiors and Contracting’s Enhancing Safety Culture Through Effective Communication; and Oman Shapoorji’s (OSCO) HSE Programme for Sultan Qaboos Mosque, Sohar.
