A construction site on Palm Jumeirah in Dubai caught fire on Wednesday.

A plume of black smoke could be seen rising above the construction sites at the foot of the Palm where it joins the mainland, but the cause was not immediately apparent, Arabian Business reported.

In December, the Oceana apartment complexon the Palm caught fire, prompting the residential building to be evacuated.

No injuries were reported and the fire was extinguished several hours later.

Last Wednesday, a minor fire broke out at building A of the Dubai Business Central Towers.

Earlier in the month, a fire broke out at Dubai's Lamcy Plaza shopping centre, located in Oud Metha.

The emirate has seen numerous building fires in recent years – the most high profile of which was the fire that ravaged The Address Downtown hotel on New Year’s Eve 2015.

Officials recently updated the official UAE fire safety code, setting new requirements for developers and construction firms in the country.
