The CWQ Leaders in Construction Qatar Summit is around the corner, due to be held on Monday, 10 April, 2017 at the Grand Hyatt Doha, Qatar.

The Construction Week Qatar’s: Leaders in Construction summit brings together the cream of the region’s construction community to network and strategise.

Andrey Burtsev, director of Sales MENA, Interpipe, a Gold sponsor for the event, answers some questions around the conference.

Why is it important that you support the CWQ: Leaders in Construction Qatar Summit?

The summit is a round table for discussion of current problems and perspectives in the construction sector, with all players of the industry at once. We understand the importance of the current challenging period. Moreover, Interpipe, well-known and reputed brand in Qatar, is faced with counterfeit of our products. We firmly believe that nowadays any support of the Qatar construction industry and frank discussion of disturbing issues is extremely important.

What do you think are the main challenges facing the construction industry in 2017?

In 2015-2016 market players of major industries in the Gulf faced the challenge of the sharp decline in oil prices that has still been affecting the economic climate. As for the construction industry, major infrastructure projects have been slowed or halted. To reduce the negative impact, market players have started to change strategies, for example increasing investments into growing areas or refocusing on the middle-sized projects. Another challenge is the growing market share of the counterfeit steel products that poses safety, legal and financial risks for all stakeholders.

However, we do hope that the Qatar construction industry will grow due to the current construction projects scheduled for 2022 FIFA World Cup and governments’ strategies, namely Qatar National Vision 2030.

As a member of Steel Alliance Against Counterfeiting, we believe in strong  support in the struggle against counterfeiting from the authorities.

What most excites you about the Qatar construction industry in 2017?

Qatar is strongly devoted to achieving sustainable development and continuing to invest in the construction industry as well as in a knowledge-based economy, education, healthcare, environmental protection and so on. Despite the market slowdown, the construction industry is expected to strengthen in 2017 and provide companies with opportunities to offer better and more technological solutions.

What are the main topics you expect to come up at the CWQ: Leaders in Construction Qatar Summit?

The biggest challenge for us is counterfeit products selling under the Interpipe brand. We are going to increase awareness about preventive steps in the fight against the emergence of a counterfeit steel pipe industry on the market.

What are the latest product/service launches from your company?

Being the UL 852 certified producer, we are constantly widening the product range for this area of application. In 2016, we mastered a new pipe dimension of OD of ½’’ and ¾‘’ and SHC 40-80. Besides the regular line pipes we have successfully supplied heavy wall thickness mechanical pipes as per E355 grades.

What other news can we expect from your company in 2017/2018?

Interpipe is looking to grow the company’s presence in 2017 and increase the awareness of our brand to gradually have a major share of the business in Qatar market without compromising on the product quality.

This year we are on target to finish the construction of a pipe galvanizing line which will provide our customers with high quality, mill-galvanised products. Also the company is to enhance its finishing capabilities in 2017.
