A short film by Volvo Construction Equipment, the second in a series covering its operations around the globe, has focused on the manufacturer’s role in supporting the development of Lusail City in Qatar.

Lusail City is a sustainable city project that will house 250,000 residents as part of Doha’s northern development corridor, accounting for about 20% of Qatar’s growth in population leading up to 2030.

The development will be will be equipped with one of the world’s largest central cooling systems, facilitated by 175km of underground piping, saving 200,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually over a comparable conventional network of a similar capacity.

In all, there are around 240 Volvo machines currently active on site, including excavators, wheel loaders, articulated hauler, motor graders and soil compactors, and many of them working 24-hour days on a three-shift cycle to meet the schedule.
