UAE: Nakheel opens waterfront retail pavilion
Nakheel's Jumeirah Islands Pavilion is expected to serve Jumeirah Islands' 8,000 residents, as well as provide a new destination for people living and working nearby
Nakheel has announced officially inaugurating the fifth community retail centre in its collection of neighbourhood shopping and dining hubs across Dubai.
The UAE-based property developer has opened a waterfront retail pavilion at its $122.52m (AED450m) Jumeirah Islands Townhouses community, bringing 14 shops, restaurants, and cafés to the neighbourhood.
The Jumeirah Islands Pavilion, which is expected to serve 8,000 residents at Jumeirah Islands and provide a new destination for people living and working nearby, has 2,800m2 (30,000ft2) of shop space. It is flanked by a 1.1km waterside jogging track.
In addition to cafés and restaurants, the pavilion features a boxing club, medical clinic, beauty salon, barber’s shop, pharmacy, and dry cleaners.
According to the company, delivery of the pavilion comes as handover of homes at the residential community is in full swing, with 25 properties already handed over.
The townhouses and the pavilion are located on the north-western side of Jumeirah Islands, a Nakheel development comprising 46 islands called “clusters”.
Jumeirah Islands has 767 luxury villas and mansions, as well as mosques, nurseries, and the Jumeirah Islands Club, which features restaurants, a pool, and a fitness centre. The development also consists of 246 luxury duplex apartments, located at Jumeirah Heights.
Commenting during the inauguration of the pavilion, Ali Rashid Lootah, the chairman of Nakheel, said: “Today marks the delivery of pavilion number five in our growing collection of community centres, which are key to our $4.36bn (AED16bn) retail expansion.”
The Jumeirah Islands Pavilion complements Nakheel pavilions at Al Furjan, Jumeirah Park, Discovery Gardens, and International City. A second pavilion at Al Furjan is on the way, along with one at the Badrah community in Jebel Ali.
Nakheel’s current and future retail developments – including large-scale destination developments, traditional souk-style complexes, and neighbourhood pavilions – have 1.5 million square metres (17 million square feet) of retail space between them, with over 0.37 million square metres (four million square feet) already in operation.
Among the developer’s upcoming projects is the $1.66bn (AED6.1bn) Deira Mall, for which a construction contract worth $1.14bn (AED4.2bn) has been awarded to United Engineering Construction.
