Nakheel breaks ground on Premier Inn Dragon City
The ground-breaking ceremony for the $47.9m Premier Inn Dragon City hotel came less than two weeks after Nakheel awarded a contract to Al Ghurair Contracting and Engineering Works to build the 304-room project
Dubai-based master developer, Nakheel, has announced breaking ground on a new hospitality project in Dragon City.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the $47.9m (AED176m) hotel, which was held on 17 April, came less than two weeks after the company awarded a contract worth $37m (AED136m) to Al Ghurair Contracting and Engineering Works to build the 304-room Premier Inn project.
Premier Inn is the developer’s second hotel in Dragon City, with the first being the 251-room ibis Styles, which opened in February last year. It is also one of two Nakheel hotels managed by Whitbread, under the Premier Inn brand. The first, a 372-room hotel at Ibn Battuta Mall, opened in October 2016.
Set for delivery in 2019, Premier Inn Dragon City is the latest project in Nakheel’s $1.36bn (AED5bn) hospitality expansion.
Speaking during the ground-breaking ceremony, Ali Rashid Lootah, chairman of Nakheel, said: “Today marks another milestone in our hospitality expansion, and highlights our commitment to delivering new hotels across Dubai, in line with the Dubai’s 2021 vision.
“I am delighted to declare that work is officially under way at Premier Inn Dragon City, and to further reinforce our already highly successful relationship with Whitbread through this latest partnership.”
According to a Dubai Media Office report, Premier Inn Dragon City is part of a huge new master plan that is transforming the area into a giant retail, residential, and recreational complex of more than 1.02 million square metres (11 million square feet).
The company also recently confirmed new hotels at Jumeirah Village Circle and Discovery Gardens, bringing its number of hospitality projects to 18.
