The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced implementing traffic diversions on a sector of Ibn Battuta Street.

The diversions are being introduced by Dubai’s transportation authority to allow for road works for its Route 2020 project to be carried out, according to Dubai Media Office.

Eng Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic & Roads Agency, said: “One lane of Ibn Battuta Street will be closed in the sector between Intersection 2 and Intersection 6. The diversion would remain in place until the completion of the works required.

“RTA has mapped out a plan for traffic diversions required for Route 2020 Project, which will be implemented in phases covering all areas through which the route passes.”

Bin Aida is calling on motorists and road users to be attentive to traffic diversions, and comply with the directional signs for their safety and to avoid triggering congestion.

“Works in Route 2020 will be running 24/7 until the completion of the entire works of the project,” she added.

The completion of Route 2020 will see Dubai's driverless metro system extended from Nakheel Harbour and Tower Station to the site of Expo 2020.
