Dubai-based construction firm Arabtec Holding announced the appointment of Boyd Merrett as new chief executive of Arabtec Construction, a wholly owned subsidiary of the group, on Sunday.

Merrett will assume his new role from July 2017, joining from CIMIC Group where he was general manager for Leighton Asia in Hong Kong.

He has over 24 years of experience in construction spanning the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Africa and has experience in delivering major building, MEP and infrastructure projects.

Last week, Arabtec reported that it had registered its first quarterly profit since 2014, posting a net profit of $4.9m (AED18m) in Q1 2017, a $17.4m (AED64m) increase compared to the net loss of $12.5m (AED46m) recorded during the corresponding period of last year.
