An uncluttered environment can pave the way for better facilities management (FM) programme delivery, a UAE-based expert told fmME.

Shelina Jokhiya, managing director at Decluttr ME, said professional organising services can also ensure increased health and safety standards during FM delivery.

She added: "Decluttering the spaces [enables] the FM team to work in a safe environment when maintaining the facilities or cleaning them.

"A big issue [FM professionals] face in buildings is the lack of health and safety due to clutter and [items lying] in haphazard places."

Jokhiya said organised areas also enable FM teams "to locate issues that they may not have been aware of as the clutter was blocking their way".

"End-users [...] may have more space than envisaged, which can either be used for the business in a more productive way," she added.

Businesses may also "reduce their space and rent [if] they do not need that space after all", Jokhiya explained.

Decluttr ME is an SME [small- and medium-enterprise] launched in 2013 with clients such as Al Gurg Group in the UAE.

Plans to expand into Oman and across the GCC are also in the pipeline.

The company, currently seeking preferred partners across various sectors including FM, provides decluttering and organising services at client facilities, in addition to workshops on productivity and organising skills, and office and business etiquette.
