Al Hamra Real Estate Development has announced that Phase 1 of its $106.2m (AED390m) Manar Mall expansion project is on course to complete by the end of Q1 2017.

The overall expansion programme will see the Ras Al Khaimah mall’s gross leasable area (GLA) almost double, from approximately 28,000m2 to nearly 56,000m2.

The initiative will involve the addition 64 retail outlets – spread over two levels – taking the mall’s total number of stores to 165.

Benoy Kurien, general manager of Al Hamra Real Estate Development, said: “The expansion of Manar Mall is in line with the growing trend for community retail and leisure-based destinations that focus on the customer experience and convenience of location and access, as opposed to the mega-malls that have defined the UAE’s retail landscape over the last decade.

“Retail developments with integrated leisure and entertainment facilities, positioned alongside restaurants and cafés, are key to driving footfall as more people demand local, indoor, family-oriented destinations for leisure, enetertainment, dining and, of course, shopping,” he added.

Opened in September 2000, Manar Mall overlooks the Ras Al Khaimah corniche and local mangroves.

It is the most visited mall in the emirate, according to Al Hamra Real Estate Development.
