Qatar’s Public Works Authority, Ashghal, has announced the completion of construction works for Aquatic Fisheries and Research Centre.

Located north of Doha in Ras Matbakh, the facility occupies an area of 10.1ha.

Eng Abdul Hakim Ahmed Al Hashemi, head of the public projects division of Ashghal's buildings project management department, said that the project was built according to the highest standards of construction quality and design, and in accordance with Qatar's building standards specifications and green building regulations, according to The Peninsula.

Built at a cost of approximately $65.3m (QAR238m), the scientific institution will specialise in marine-re;ated environmental research and fish farming studies. Its activities will help monitor and protect marine ecosystems, develop and increase local fish production, support biodiversity, and train Qatari nationals in the use of modern aqua-culture technologies.

The research centre comprises three primary units: a marine fish hatchery, a marine shrimp hatchery, and a selection of scientific laboratories. It also features a building for administrative services.

The fish and shrimp farming units include a number of sub-units and facilities, such as a water-pumping station, incubation units, a fish-fattening facility, a fish-pond processing unit, and additional laboratories.

The administrative office building contains two floors, which boast 28 administrative offices, two meeting rooms, and a lecture hall.

The centre also includes power-generation and electricity control areas, as well as buildings for feed stores, maintenance workshops, workers' dormitories, staff accommodation, shaded parking for boats, car parks, and landscaped areas.
