The bridge project is being undertaken by RTA in coordination with Emaar Properties, and links Al Khail Road and Financial Centre Road

Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that a bridge project that will connect Al Khail Road and Financial Centre Road is now more than 90% complete.

Valued at $48.2m (AED177m), the infrastructure project is being undertaken by RTA in coordination with Emaar Properties. It is expected to be completed by the end of this year, UAE state news agency, WAM, reported.

Stretching 1,270m, the bridge is built on individual pillars and crosses the Dubai Water Canal. WAM further noted that works on the project also include lighting, as well as the shifting of impacted infrastructure services, such as water, electricity, irrigation, drainage, and communication lines.

The bridge starts from the intersection of Ras Al Khor Road and Al Khail Road, and is being built with the aim of easing and routing the movement of traffic. The existing road will be widened with the addition of two lanes in a 480m-long sector to ensure smooth flow of traffic from the intersection of Dubai-Al Ain Road at Al Khail Road and along the upper deck of Financial Centre Road.

An entry point will also be provided to the parking terminal of the Dubai Mall expansion project.

The project is expected to ease the flow of traffic along Financial Centre Road, as well as the surface intersections, through the reduction of vehicular density on the intersections leading to the Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard. It is also expected to boost the capacity of Financial Centre Road to as many as 4,500 vehicles during peak hours; serve a host of development projects; and alleviate the pressure on the existing road network.

According to WAM, the project has become necessary to accommodate Emaar’s expansion of Dubai Mall.
