RTA announces traffic changes as Route 2020 works progress
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced traffic changes in streets linked with works in progress of the Route 2020 metro project
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced traffic changes in streets linked with works in progress of the Route 2020 metro project.
Under this phase, diversions will be set up in areas including Discovery Gardens, The Gardens, Al Furjan and other districts developed by Nakheel Properties to ease the flow of traffic while work on the project progresses, according to Dubai Media Office.
Additional diversions will be introduced in Ibn Battuta Street and surrounding areas where work has been in progress since April.
The traffic diversions will see a reduction of the number of lanes from three to two in each direction along Ibn Battuta Street between Street 2 and Street 6.
Construction works began last March and will continue until the end of the project.
The RTA announced earlier this year that it has mapped out a plan for traffic diversions required for Route 2020, which will be implemented in phases covering all areas which the route passes.
The completion of Route 2020 will see Dubai's driverless metro system extended from Nakheel Harbour and Tower Station to the site of Expo 2020.
Ridership is expected to hit 125,000 passengers per day by 2020, a figure expected to increase to 275,000 per day by 2030.
