Lexus hybrid sales in the UAE grow by 225% in H1 2017
Al-Futtaim Motors sees 225% increase in sales of hybrid Lexus models during the first half of this year, compared to the same period in 2016
Al-Futtaim Motors, the UAE distributor of Lexus, has announced a 225% increase in its sales of hybrid Lexus models during the first half of this year, compared to the same period in 2016.
The upsurge in hybrid sales was mainly driven by the Lexus RX 450h, which accounted for roughly 25% of RX sales during the six months, followed by the CT 200h, GS 450h and LS 600h.
Christopher Buxton, MD of Lexus at Al-Futtaim Motors, said: “We take pride in leading green mobility through the largest line-up of hybrid offer in the UAE, and we are grateful to our customers who have supported us in our journey towards a more sustainable future.
“The growth in our hybrid sales is concrete evidence that UAE motorists have become more sensitive towards ever-growing environmental issues. We have also committed to making sustainable mobility widely available by price matching our hybrid models with their petrol equivalent.”
Today, globally, Lexus sells 10 full hybrid models and is the premium brand with the largest full hybrid line-up. In the UAE, it offers 5 luxury hybrid vehicles including Lexus LC 500h, LS 600h, GS 450h, RX 450h and CT 200h
Lexus pioneered its hybrid range with the launch of the RX 400h hybrid SUV in 2005, and subsequently expanded its hybrid offering by launching the GS 450h hybrid sedan in 2006 and more powerful LS 600h hybrid sedan in 2007.
The brand then launched the CT 200h compact in 2011, NX 300h mid-size crossover in 2014, the RC 300h sports coupe in 2015 and the LC 500h coupe, the first multi-stage hybrid vehicle, in 2017.
Hybrid technology is one of the most socioeconomically practical routes to air quality improvement, as it requires no changes to infrastructure, driver behaviour or the driving range of vehicles.
Al-Futtaim Motors has also seen triple digit growth in sales of the Toyota Prius and Camry hybrids.
