The Sutra housing project in Cairo has officially commenced Phase 2 of the initiative after the successful completion and inauguration of the first phase, Egyptian charity Alwaleed Philanthropies announced on Wednesday,
Carried out in partnership with the Misr El Kheir Foundation, the Sutra project targets areas with the highest need for housing in several cities across the country.
In 2015, Alwaleed Philanthropies granted 10,000 low-cost housing units as part of the project, which involves an estimated 1,000 units to be distributed each year.
The Sutra project will also see the construction and distribution of 10,000 housing units to Egyptian families over the next ten years.
The first phase of the project helped improve the living standards of 1,000 families through various communities across a total of 37 villages.
Alwaleed Philanthropies and Misr El Kheir Foundation collaborated in 2014 in another initiative which consisted of paying the debts of 1,000 men and women in Egyptian prisons to enable their release during the holy month of Ramadan.
