DEWA awards contracts worth $25.9m for low-voltage cables

DEWA has awarded contracts worth $25.9m (AED95m) to several UAE-based companies for the supply of 1,290km of low-voltage cables

Contracts worth $25.9m (AED95m) have been awarded to several UAE-based companies for the supply of 1,290km of low-voltage cables, it has been revealed.

In a statement, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) said that the cables are for household connections. It added that it awarded the contracts to ensure the reliability and efficiency of electricity services.

According to DEWA, the terms of the contracts cover the supply of aluminium and copper cables required to expand electricity distribution networks across Dubai.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive officer of DEWA, commented: “DEWA is proactively implementing vital development projects, especially infrastructure, to achieve sustainable development and happiness in Dubai for generations to come.

“The [awarding of these contracts] will manage the continued growth of demand for electricity and the needs of ambitious urban, economic, and social projects.”

He added: “These cables will be used in several projects at DEWA, and will contribute to increasing the efficiency and reliability of electricity distribution in Dubai.

“The supply of cables is expected to be complete by April 2018.”
