Multi-disciplinary consultancy WSP has begun collaborating with its clients on the updated UAE Fire and Life Safety Code (2017), a senior official from the company confirmed.

The firm was part of a committee that provided technical and editorial inputs for various chapters of the code, Alexander Castellanos, deputy head of fire and life safety at WSP, told ConstructionWeekOnline.

He continued: "We have also been requested by [civil defence authorities] to participate in developing a training programme for the industry, which will be rolled out later this year.

"We are, of course, actively promoting the updated code through our work on projects, with our clients and with our industry partners."

When asked whether WSP has started communicating the new code’s requirements with its clients, or implementing the new guidelines in its project designs, Castellanos said: "We certainly have.

"In the first instance we have communicated the changes within our business.

"It is critical that, as a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy, we understand how the changes will impact our design.

"In addition to the business, we have also made our clients and their representatives aware of how the code changes will impact their projects."
