Sharjah's University Road set for $40m revamp

Sharjah Urban Planning Council (SUPC) launched the enhancement project, in collaboration with the emirate's transport authority

An infrastructure revamp project worth $39.7m (AED146m) will be implemented in Sharjah. 

Sharjah Urban Planning Council (SUPC) launched the development with the support of HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

The University Road Enhancement project will convert a part of the road, from Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road to University City, into "well-organised, usable, and sustainable public realm".

Wide sidewalks, landscaping comprised of native species, a bike path, and parking spaces will be developed within the space, which is expected to span 52,000m2, Khalid Al Ali, secretary-general of SUPC, said. 

The development was launched in collaboration with the Sharjah Road and Transport Authority, WAM reported.
