UAE-based company, Summertown Interiors, has announced that it has completed the fit out of Smart Dubai Office.

In a statement, the company said that it collaborated with Design Worldwide Partnership (DWP) on the project, a 1,850m2 facility that reportedly came with complex audio visual and IT requirements.

Smart Dubai Office is the technology arm of the Dubai government’s Smart Dubai initiative, which aims to transform the emirate into the world’s smartest and happiest city by 2021. It is located in Dubai Design District (D3)

Noting that its focus on green interiors was factored into its appointment, Summertown revealed that it was tasked with managing the LEED certification process for the project.

The company added that it is expecting to achieve LEED Gold certification for the office.

According to Summertown, to implement DWP’s design, which took inspiration from Dubai’s sand dunes and creek, it installed curved wooden ceiling panels, wooden oak floors, landscaped gardens, and roped partitions. All joinery items were custom-built by the company.

Summertown also noted that it implemented green waste strategies to minimise the environmental impact during the build. With these strategies in place, approximately 50% of waste was recycled and sold to scrap dealers, the company said.

Meanwhile, technology installed includes a virtual receptionist or an unmanned reception area that allows guests to send an SMS and email to the person they are meeting, while also acting as a dashboard for the power and water consumption in the office.

The office also features an all-in-one meeting room control pad for presentation display, lights, and blinds. The pad is said to connect wirelessly to different devices like laptops, tablets, and smartphones, allowing for easy meeting room management and collaboration with colleagues inside and outside the organisation.

Summertown said that to further encourage collaboration, integrated shareable ‘digital spaces’ have been incorporated into the office design. Meeting rooms feature writable walls to help foster creativity and productivity within the workplace.

Other elements include a café with a curved LED screen to broadcast live feeds of social media and events, an auditorium with flexible seating, and quiet zones, where Smart Dubai employees can choose to work.

Commenting on the project, HE Dr Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, director general of Smart Dubai Office, said: “We employed a team of experts from DWP and Summertown to ensure our office adheres to international environmental standards.

“DWP and Summertown did an outstanding job and built a space that reflects our identity as a progressive smart organisation, as well as our mission to make Dubai the happiest city on the planet – starting with our own offices. Our facilities overwhelmingly rely on organic material, including wood and rope. This reduces our carbon footprint and reflect our core principal of sustainable, environmentally friendly development.”
