Al-Futtaim Motors, the distributor of Hino in the UAE, has handed over a Hino 300 Series hybrid light-duty truck to Oasis Water Company – in a first, significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint of commercial vehicles in the Emirates.

The Hino 300 Series equips the world’s first hybrid diesel engine designed exclusively for commercial trucks – coming in emerging markets like the Middle East in the form of a Euro IV and EVV compliant 4L diesel engine paired with an auxiliary electric motor.

The light-duty truck has been fitted with a mounted half chiller, half freezer body fitted by Gorica Industries and manufactured with high-quality glass reinforced plastic panels, to ensure conformity to market regulations during the hot summer months.

The handover at Oasis Water’s Headquarters was attended by Ramez Hamdan, GM for Hino at Al-Futtaim Motors and George Antonios, MD at National Food Products Company (the parent company of Oasis Water), and was also attended by a delegation from Hino Japan.

Hamdan noted: “Our relationship with Oasis goes back many years, and a large part of their fleet consists of Hino trucks. The handover of this Hino 300 Series Hybrid is in turn evidence of our mutual efforts to improve air quality in the UAE and reduce our carbon footprint in line with Vision 2021.”

Antonios added: “As a market leader in the packaged water industry we understand that our intention to improve the access to convenient and affordable water solutions must be balanced with the potential impact our industry has on the environment we live in.”
