Dubai Municipality has announced that it will be making use of drone technology for a new service targeted at the real estate sector.

At the launch of its new aerial survey service, held on 20 July, Dubai Municipality said that it will be utilising drones to provide real estate companies, consultants, and contractors with detailed data of rectified orthophotos and topographic maps.

The new service will reportedly produce maps offering up to 200 times better clarity than maps produced through conventional surveys. It will also provide contour maps and 3D points for large-scale projects with vast spaces and rocky geographies, and will only take 88% less time than traditional surveys, UAE state news agency, WAM, reported.

Talking about how the new service will help the municipality implement the concept of Happy Dubai, Dawood Al Hajiri, assistant director-general of Dubai Municipality’s Engineering and Planning Sector, commented: "It will definitely enhance the satisfaction of customers about the services provided by Dubai Municipality to various groups of society.”

According to WAM, the launch of the aerial survey service also saw the municipality’s Survey Department unveil the design of “Kharetati” (My map), a smart mobile app that will enable customers to request access to land maps without having to visit the offices of Dubai Municipality.
