The UAE has awarded a grant worth $817,000 (AED3m) to the governorate of Al Dhale in Yemen, it has been announced.
The grant will be used to cover the costs of two new schools and the rehabilitation of 16 schools that have been damaged by conflict in the area, UAE news agency, WAM, reported.
According to the report, Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) Authority has signed an agreement with the governor of Al Dhale, Fadl Al Jaadi, for the project, which will also include the development of a 3km road in a remote local village.
The awarding of the grant is part of the UAE’s activities under the Year of Giving initiative, WAM reported.
In July, it was announced that ERC had signed a contract to refurbish Shabaat School in Daw’an District, in Yemen’s Hadhramaut Governorate.
