Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded contracts worth $35.3m (AED129.55m) to design, manufacture, test, and supply 1,570 distribution transformers.

The cast resin distribution transformers, with capacities of 11/0.4kV, and 1,000kVA and 1,500 kVA, will be equipped with low-voltage smart metres.

All transformers are to be delivered by April 2018, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA, said.

He continued: "DEWA has made great achievements in the efficiency, reliability, sustainability, and management of its optimal-investment infrastructure, as well as the operation of its networks.

"These transformers will increase the capacity, efficiency and reliability of the electricity distribution network in Dubai, to ensure a continuous and stable supply of power to all stakeholders," he added, according to WAM.
