Dimitri Papakonstantinou, managing director at Plafond, a fit out and MEP contracting company, says that Expo projects will provide significant growth to contractors
Dimitri Papakonstantinou, managing director at Plafond, a fit out and MEP contracting company, said that Expo projects will provide significant growth to contractors.
Papakonstantinou told MEP Middle East: "Several exciting projects from the Expo-related works to the mega developments around the creek will provide substantial workload and growth to many contractors. This will provide further opportunities not only for growth but also for the exploration and development of new technologies in the industry. This is sorely required as, construction as an industry remains relatively archaic compared to advancements in most other industries."
Talking about the challenges in the industry, he said: "The challenges of our industry and of the region remain that of general liquidity. This compounded with the fact that contractors are still required to sign up to onerous conditions and timelines puts extreme pressure on many companies."
Papakonstantinou added that the construction industry will see some major changes when it comes to the use of 3D printing. He said: "From 3D printing to pre-cast and modular, we will soon have to review how we do things."
Papakonstantinou's full interview will appear in issue 1209 of MEP Middle East, which will be out in the first week of September 2017.
