Majid Al Futtaim has awarded Al Turki Enterprise the construction contract for the $117m (OMR45m) City Centre Sohar in Oman.

The new City Centre Sohar will include more than 130 stores, a 8,400sqm Carrefour Hypermarket, a nine-screen VOX Cinema, and dining and entertainment options.

The mall will also add 40,000m2 of gross leasable area to the Sultanate’s growing retail sector. Work on the project will begin in November 2017.

Ghaith Shocair, chief executive officer Shopping Malls, Majid Al Futtaim Properties, said: "As part of Majid Al Futtaim’s growth strategy, we aim to be at the forefront of Oman’s rapid development in the retail industry and bring the best shopping, food & beverage and entertainment experiences to Sohar with this contemporary urban project.”

City Centre Sohar has set a target to achieve LEED Gold status within three months of opening by implementing sustainable building best practices.

Sustainable building features include enhanced insulation, LED lighting, solar panels, and condensation from air-conditioning and ventilation systems for irrigation purposes.

Majid Al Futtaim Properties owns and operates the newly upgraded City Centre Qurum, as well as City Centre Muscat, which recently underwent a $70m (OMR27m) expansion.
