UAE-based developer Nakheel has awarded four contracts collectively worth more than $117m (AED430m) for its 15.3 square kilometre Deira Islands waterfront development.

The contracts, covering islands A and B of the four-island project, are for a sewage treatment plant, a district cooling plant, a substation, and piling work for an 800-room resort.

Nakheel has now invested nearly $2bn (AED7.5bn) in infrastructure and construction contracts for Deira Islands so far.

The developer said in a statement that more contracts will come online soon.

Deira Islands will add 40km, including 21km of beach to Dubai’s coastline, adding a population of 250,000 and creating 80,000 jobs.
