Kuwait authority opens 200ha waste recycling centre

Environment Public Authority's project in Al Salmi was established in cooperation with Kefan Co-Op Society and Kuwait Union Of Consumer Co-Operative Societies

Kuwait's Environment Public Authority (EPA) unveiled a waste recycling centre, spanning 200ha (2km2), in the Al Salmi area.

The project was established in cooperation with Kefan Co-Op Society and Kuwait Union Of Consumer Co-Operative Societies.

National Fund for Small and Medium Enterprise and Omniya, the team behind a plastic recycling project in the country, supported the development. 

EPA's director-general, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Homoud Al-Sabah, said more centres would follow the latest launch, which is the first of its kind in Al Salmi.

He added: "[This] waste dumps assembly centre is the base for recycling projects in the country." 

With a view to reducing waste landfills in Kuwait, EPA is working to increase the number of recycling centres in the country, Al-Sabah said, according to state agency, KUNA.
