The use of Dubai Lamp has been mandated in new buildings following the issuance of a memo by Dubai Municipality.

Consultancies, contractors, and developers operating in the emirate have reportedly received the memo.

All consultancies must develop project-relevant mechanisms that ensure the use of Dubai Lamp across all projects, including those under construction.

Starting December 2017, the municipality will seek to verify that Dubai Lamp has been used across all developments, with its implementation being one of the conditions that must be fulfilled to receive building completion certificates.

Layali Al Mulla, director of Dubai Municipality's buildings department, added: "In case other lamps similar to the Dubai Lamp have already been purchased or contracted upon ahead of issuing this memo, the contractor [...] shall have to submit the relevant purchase invoices upon applying for the building completion certificate."

Familiarisation workshops may be held by the authority to spread awareness about Dubai Lamp, WAM reported.
