Work on two roads in Dubai International Financial District (DIFC) will begin this month, with a scheduled completion by early 2018, Nabil AlKindi, DIFC’s chief real estate officer said on Wednesday.

The road projects are in line with a number of ongoing development projects in the area, including the under construction Gate 11 building and the Gate Avenue, both to be completed in the first and second quarters of 2018, respectively.

AlKindi said that the area will be undergoing a signage upgrade and wayfinding improvements that will also be completed next year.

“We are doing a major infrastructure upgrade because of the traffic being seen lately by people living and working in DIFC, making the area congested,” AlKindi said.

HLG was recently awarded the $13m (AED49.5m) contract to build two new roads and upgrade the district’s road infrastructure in the coming year.  Work on the project will begin later this month.

Current development on projects, including the Gate Avenue and road upgrades, brings the total value of construction in the area to $272m (AED1bn).

Approximately $2m (AED7.5m), or about 20% of land, is yet to be developed in DIFC with 51% already built or developed and another 16% currently under development, AlKindi added.

DIFC will be announcing a number of projects in the coming year, including more mixed-use office spaces and an F&B project to be unveiled next year.
