Amman, Jordan.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) in Jordan is seeking expression of interest for the construction of one of the largest utility-scale electrical storage projects in the Middle East.

The electrical storage project, which will be located in the kingdom’s Ma’an governorate, will be powered by at least 30MW with an energy capacity of 60MWh.

The storage facility will be primarily used for ramp-rate control of PV and wind power plants, as well as for energy shifts of otherwise curtailed renewable energy.

Phase 1 of the project is scheduled to be completed by August 2019, while Phase 2 is expected to be completed by 2020.

According to MEMR, an additional optional project may be tendered as part of Phase 2 during the initial phase.

Phase 1 will involve building an electrical storage facility to be located 9 km South-East of the city Ma’an next to the existing NEPCO Ma’an Solar 33kV/132 kV substation.

The electrical storage size under Phase 2 is yet to be determined. The submission deadline is 28 September, 2017.
