Dubai Municipality’s waste management department has distributed a new cooling collar to municipality cleaners to help protect them from exposure to excessive heat during the UAE’s harsh summer months.
The collars, placed on the neck, will provide recovery from heat and will help to reduce body temperature. A total of 4,000 cooling collars have already been distributed by the municipality.
Abdulmajeed Saifai, director of Waste Management Department, said: “Protecting the department’s workforce is at the top of our priorities as the nature of work of this category requires working in the open and exerting a lot of efforts in cleaning operations.
“The department took into account these factors and initiated the distribution of this type of cooling material, which can be used around the neck to cool the body and protect the body from high temperature so that the worker is not subject to heat exhaustion due to high temperatures,”
The material used for the new technology is similar to that of cold compressors placed on worker’s jackets to cool the areas exposed to heat.
The collars are meant to function for up to four to six hours per day and can be reused after freezing the technology in a refrigerator.
