James Mowat, international team manager at UK-based recruitment company Energi People, says that there will always be challenges in finding the right caliber of individuals in the MEP sector.

Talking about the market, Mowat told MEP Middle East: "After a tough few months, the market seems to be moving in the right direction across the UAE with various iconic projects being awarded. There is still a big demand for BIM and a real shortage of talented BIM staff, who understand the full engineering aspects and benefits of BIM for the design team and the end-user."

He added that over the past six months, there have been many high level individuals who have moved companies in the region.

Mowat admitted that the market has been very challenging over the past 12 months. However, he said that there has been a lot of positivity in seeing a steady increase in the growth of small-to-medium (SME) engineering consultancies over the past year across the GCC.

He added: "The release of further projects for Expo 2020 in Dubai should see a lot of opportunities available for many of the regions consultancies and contractors over the coming 12-18 months. There will always be challenges in finding the right caliber of individuals, which is of course why we are here."
