Gulf Marketing Group has broken ground on a 40,000m2 distribution centre in Dubai’s Jebel Ali Free Zone
Gulf Marketing Group (GMG) has broken ground on its 40,000m2 distribution facility in Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), Dubai.
The multi-tiered distribution centre, which will facilitate GMG’s e-commerce business, will feature an automated sorter and conveyor load system, which is expected to streamline warehouse operations.
The facility will boast a total storage capacity of 21 million units, and a throughput of 400,000 items per day.
The distribution centre is scheduled to complete by September 2018, according to GMG.
Mohammad A Baker, deputy chairman and chief executive officer of GMG, said: “Our business is ever-expanding, and we are pleased to celebrate this milestone at the ground-breaking ceremony in Jafza.
“Automated technology is on the rise, and we are eager to start implementing it in our new facility, which is in line with our business objectives and initiatives across the region,” he added.
GMG’s logistics service arm, Trilogi Logistics, will handle all operations for the Jafza distribution centre. Amana Contracting & Steel Buildings has been appointed as the main contractor for the project.
Once complete, the new facility will supplement GMG’s existing 20,000m2 distribution centre.
Founded in 1978, the holding company includes 10 business divisions, ranging from healthcare to education and sports. GMG’s Sun & Sand Sports business boasts more than 200 stores and 5,000 employees across the Middle East.
