Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that it will be installing solar panels on roofs of villas for UAE nationals in Hatta for free.
According to DEWA, the initiative is part of its efforts to help the emirate become one of the most sustainable cities in the world and supports the Shams Dubai programme, as well as the Hatta Development Plan.
DEWA representatives have reportedly carried out field visits to homes of UAE nationals in Hatta to explain the installation process.
Etihad Esco will provide project management and technical supervision services, revealed DEWA.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive officer of DEWA, commented: "DEWA is a strategic partner in the implementation of the Hatta Comprehensive Development Plan launched by Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
“We are keen to encourage Hatta's residents to participate in Shams Dubai, a key pillar of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to transform Dubai into a global hub for clean energy and green economy, and to provide 75% of Dubai’s energy through clean sources by 2050.”
He continued: “The initiative also supports the Demand Side Energy Management Strategy, which seeks to reduce energy and water demand by 30% by 2030, driving the country's sustainable development and making Dubai one of the most sustainable cities in the world."
The installation of the solar panels is expected to complete by February 2018.
