Adopting correct engineering principles during the construction phases of a building is key to improving fire safety in the region, according to an expert.
Peter Stephenson, associate head of fire engineering at BuroHappold, explained that the appropriate and most successful strategy regarding fire safety is the adoption of the correct engineering principles in the sector.
This includes the areas of design, prevention procedures, risk management and the control of combustible materials, as well as through regular internal and external audits and evacuation plans.
Stephenson said that the UAE is keen to apply the best solutions and technological innovations in the field of fire safety and the security of building interfaces.
He also explained that Dubai more specifically has benefitted from its considerable social diversity, allowing for the adoption of the best international practices.
Stephenson, as well as other experts participating in the Windows, Doors and Facades Show have stated that the UAE is applying the best technological solutions to the issue of fire safety in buildings to maintain the best standards in this field.
The second edition of the exhibition, which opened on Monday, coincides with the Emirates Guidelines update to prevent fires and protect lives, Emirates Code 2017.
Windows, Doors and Facades is considered the only platform in the region to host awareness seminars on fire risks, as well as the nature and characteristics of combustible construction materials.
