Kuwait to launch three PPP projects in 2018

Authorities are in the final stages of financial closure for the three projects, a senior government official said

Three PPP projects will be launched in Kuwait next year.

Three projects funded by the public-private partnership (PPP) model will be launched in Kuwait next year, as part of the country's state development plan.

The Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) will launch the projects under Kuwait's National Master Plan for 2017/2018, KAPP's director-general, Mutlaq Al-Sanea, said.

Al-Sanea was speaking at Euromoney Kuwait Conference 2017.

After 18 months of development, KAPP is now in the final stages of financial closure for the three projects, he said.

KAPP will launch the Labour City, Kabd Municipal Solid Waste, and Umm Al-Hayman Wastewater projects, Al-Sanea said.

Additional projects will be launched "soon", and KAPP is also working on infrastructure PPP projects, in line with Kuwait's Law No 116/2014.

Al-Sanea said PPPs would provide new job opportunities for Kuwaiti citizens in the private sector, as well as boost its contribution to the country's gross domestic product (GDP).

There are "strong indicators" that financial and legal players are interested in KAPP's projects, thanks to the government's support for PPP programmes, KUNA reported.
