UAE’s $70.8m City Centre Sharjah mall expansion enters final phase
Majid Al Futtaim’s $70.8m City Centre Sharjah expansion has passed the 75% completion mark, and will enter its final phase of redevelopment this month
The City Centre Sharjah expansion will enter its final phase of redevelopment this month, according to the project’s owner-operator, Majid Al Futtaim.
The $70.8m (AED260m) revamp, which is now approximately 75% complete, will see more than 30 new retail, food and beverage (F&B), and entertainment outlets added to the mall.
The expansion programme also involves the development of a 12-screen VOX Cinema, and more than 700 additional parking spaces.
Commenting on the project, Fuad Mansoor Sharaf, Majid Al Futtaim Properties’ managing director for shopping malls in the UAE, Bahrain, and Oman, said: “Majid Al Futtaim wants to offer residents and tourists much more than shopping. As the expectations of our discerning customers evolve, so do our offerings to meet those demands.
“The new lifestyle stores and dining options will offer a much wider variety to meet different tastes of visitors, right from the youth to families looking for a great time out.
“The new City Centre Sharjah will merge world-class retail with the best entertainment options as well. We are particularly excited to be bringing VOX Cinemas, the Middle East’s most innovative cinema, to the mall, which will offer unparalleled entertainment experiences with tailored viewing options for a memorable movie-going experience for everyone,” Sharaf added.
The expansion of City Centre Sharjah forms part of Majid Al Futtaim’s planned $8.1bn (AED30bn) investment in the UAE by 2026. In addition to investing in its existing assets, the firm plans to open 10 malls, 28 cinemas, and 40 Carrefour hypermarkets before 2021.
Majid Al Futtaim is also pushing ahead with Al Zahia, a mixed-use megaproject that is being jointly developed with Sharjah government.
“Our repositioning of City Centre Sharjah reflects our commitment and investment in the Northern Emirates planned over the next few years, as we aim to contribute to bolstering the economy and tourism of the UAE with our world-class retail and leisure offerings,” Sharaf concluded.
