Saudi Arabian construction firms are said to be targeting a "digital transformation" in 2018, a year that would prove to be the "tipping point" for tech to be incorporated in building operations.

Ahead of the Saudi Build exhibition, experts said companies in the kingdom would look to adopting technology as an efficient method of completing the country's construction pipeline, which is expected to be worth $47.5bn (SAR178bn) next year.

This development is supported by the Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Program 2020 initiatives, which entail the development of rail, airport, and seaport projects.

Anwar Al Qwasmi, the general manager for Saudi Arabia at Trimble Solutions, said he expects building information modelling (BIM) software and practices to further gain traction in the country.

In a press statement, he added: "BIM software solutions are in high demand in the kingdom, helping to enhance productivity and collaboration across the entire project lifecycle, and reducing waste and cost.

"In the current economic climate, technology solutions can drive business competitiveness and new levels of digital business innovation."

Trimble's portfolio in Saudi includes the Abdullah Arif Intersection Bridge for the Holy Makkah Municipality, the Riyadh Metro Depots, and the King Abdulaziz International Airport Railway Station in Jeddah.

The Saudi Build exhibition kicked off in Riyadh on 23 October, 2017, and will end on 26 October, 2017.
