MEP Awards 2017: SEMCO wins mechanical project award
SEMCO bagged the 2017 Mechanical Project of the Year award for its Petroleum Institute Research Centre project in Abu Dhabi
SEMCO bagged the 2017 Mechanical Project of the Year award for its Petroleum Institute Research Centre project in Abu Dhabi.
Talking about some of the challenges, SEMCO stated that this was the first time, in a petroleum research center in Middle East, SEMCO used special design & high liability extract plume fans using energy recovery coils improving the efficiency of cooling system and recover huge energy from laboratories extracted air before discharging diluted air to ambient.
Moreover, these fans can ensure safe environment for all operators inside the labs in correspondence to the sequence of control with lab air flow system.
SEMCO used a special design for cooling towers by proposing and using ultra low noise cooling fans to ensure low noise level within the space of cooling towers and maintain the comfort of end users and visitors to the terrace area.
SEMCO faced huge a challenge pertaining to shifting and installation of large footprint equipment such as water-cooled centrifugal chillers, extract laboratory plume fans, cooling towers & H2S scrubbers due to limited space at roof level while ensuring enough safe space for movement, inspection and maintenance purposes.
Talking about the win, Subhash J. Pritmani, vice president of SEMCO, said: “This is perhaps the best award we have ever achieved. The petroleum institute is a fantastic engineering marvel. Although our award is for mechanical, I feel that in all disciplines this project was fantastic.
“We won because of the complexity of the work and it is one of the best engineering jobs that SEMCO has done. The client is very happy with this.”
