This year, two individuals bagged the Project Manager of the Year award.
One of the winners was Aoidin Curran, associate – projects at WME Consultants.
About her, one of the judges stated: “She stood out as working on the most exciting project currently in the UAE. That warrants significant all round contribution and skillsets.”
The project that the judge was refereeing to was the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2020.
Curran said about the award and project: “This award is really important for us, as a company and team. It’s a very iconic project in Dubai. We’re really excited that we are working on it, so obviously, to have this recognition, for myself, and the team, it’s fantastic.”
The other winner was Roy Wicks, project manager at Alemco.
Wicks has over 18 years of experience in the field of mechanical and other engineering fields with specialisation on fire control systems and has been with Alemco since 2008.
Talking about costs versus quality in a project, Wicks said: “The cost versus quality equation is tough one, it’s an ongoing battle – we have to finish the job on time, and to the standard of what the client wants, but we also have to maintain a certain element on the budget. That means you have to look for suppliers who are willing to work with us and find solutions from an engineering point that the suppliers will cooperate with us to find a cost effective solution and also gives the client’s end result.
"I’ve been in the industry for a long time, and I’m honoured with this accreditation."
