The revamped and renovated Safi water treatment plant was inaugurated in Ajman by Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman.
Safi general manager Gurvan Dersel said that building a new plant to the same specs would involve an investment of $8m (AED30m).
The revamped Safi Water Treatment plant in Ajman has a daily production capacity of 2.2 million gallons of water from 300,000 gallons previously.
The plant gets its sewage water from the Ajman Municipality via underground pipes, and uses various filtration processes including reverse osmosis to purify water for use in commercial purposes.
“The water is suitable for commercial and construction purposes, but it can also be used for district cooling,” Dersel said.
The plant uses the latest technology, and allows truck to drive in to the facility and fill up with the water, a process similar to a petrol filling station. Cashless transactions are also possible.
The project has been co-developed by Belgium firm Besix.
