Etihad Energy Services Company (ESCO) has been picked to fit solar photovoltaic (PV) panels at water reservoirs in Dubai.

Project works, comprising the design, development, and installation of the solar PV panels on water reservoirs managed by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), will begin this year.

The scheme is expected to reduce the emirate's carbon footprint, and increase the proportion of solar power in Dubai's energy mix.

Etihad ESCO said that the total installed capacity of the solar PV systems on DEWA's water reservoirs could reach up to 60 mega-watt peak (MWp).

Commenting on the project, Ali Al Jassim, the chief executive officer of Etihad ESCO, said: "The solar PV systems will promote sustainable development, which will reinforce the UAE’s position as one of the most advanced countries for alternative energy."

Earlier this month, it was announced that Etihad ESCO had been awarded a contract to fit systems that encourage sustainable resource consumption at 34 of Dubai Police's facilities.

As part of the agreement, Dubai Police's stations, prisons, and offices would "go green" with the installation of systems that would help save electricity and water, as well as reduce carbon emissions.

Etihad ESCO was also contracted to install solar PV systems at the facilities, and carry out LEED audits for some of Dubai Police's buildings.
